Precision Pruning
Tree Trimming
& Pruning
The right pruning cut extends a tree's life. The wrong one shortens it. Our ISA-certified arborists know the difference — and it shows in the health of your trees years down the road.

Every Type of Pruning, Done Correctly
Trimming and pruning aren't the same thing, and neither is every cut. We match the technique to your tree's needs.
Crown Cleaning
Removal of dead, dying, diseased, and crossing branches. The foundation of any healthy pruning program — prevents decay, improves airflow, and reduces storm risk.
Crown Thinning
Selective removal of interior branches to increase light penetration and air circulation without reducing the tree's overall size or silhouette.
Crown Raising
Lifting the lower canopy for clearance over roofs, walkways, driveways, and sight lines — without stressing the tree by removing too much at once.
Structural Pruning
Training young trees to develop strong branch architecture — reduces future hazard and expensive corrective work down the road.
Deadwooding
Targeted removal of dead limbs before they become falling hazards. Especially important for large oaks, maples, and conifers over structures.
Vista Pruning
Opening specific sight lines in the canopy to restore views without significantly altering the tree's form or long-term health.
Timing Matters
Portland's Tree Calendar
Most trees in the Pacific Northwest benefit from late dormancy pruning — late winter to early spring, before bud break. But timing depends heavily on species. Pruning an oak in summer invites oak wilt; pruning a fruit tree at the wrong phase stunts next year's crop.
Our arborists assess each tree individually and schedule the work at the optimal time — not just whenever it's convenient. We'll tell you if waiting a few weeks will meaningfully improve the outcome.
Late Winter
✓ Most deciduous trees, oaks, maples
✕ Cherry & plum (disease risk)
Spring
✓ Dead & hazard branches (any time)
✕ Heavy structural work on leafing trees
Summer
✓ Light crown raising, vista pruning
✕ Major crown work in heat stress
Fall / Winter
✓ Conifers, hazard reduction
✕ Active pruning cuts on susceptible oaks
ISA Pruning Standards
We Follow ANSI A300 Pruning Standards
Every pruning job we do follows ANSI A300 industry standards — the same standards used by municipal arborists and park services. That means no topping, no flush cuts, no lion-tailing. Just clean, correct cuts that promote long-term tree health instead of creating future problems.
